Where do we park?

Metered parking is available on Furman Street near Pier 2. A paid parking lot is available at Pier 6. The lot is located on the south side of 360 Furman Street.

When should we arrive?

Please arrive at the dock no later than 15 minutes before the scheduled departure time. If you arrive early, you can check-in at any time.

Can we bring our own food and drinks on board?

No. Because all our food offerings are strictly kosher, we ask our passengers to refrain from bringing food and drinks with them. Food and beverages are available for purchase on board.

What happens if the weather is bad?

Sailing on a windjammer is an outdoor experience. We typically sail in showers and light drizzles but usually cancel sails in a steady rain or downpour. See our cancellation/rescheduling policy below.

What is your cancellation policy?

In our inaugural season, all paid reservations will be 100% refundable up to 12 hours before your scheduled departure. If you want to cancel or if the weather is bad, we will try to reschedule the sail. If rescheduling is not an option, you will receive a full refund.

How many people does your vessel accommodate?

Our schooner can carry 49 passengers plus four crew members.

Do we need to bring our own life jackets?

No, our vessel is equipped with life jackets for adults and children. However, you are not required to wear a life jacket while onboard. If you would be more comfortable wearing one, please feel free to use one of ours or bring your own. Ask a crew member for assistance.

Is this trip safe?

Safety has top priority at Metrosails. The sailing vessel Red Sea is a U.S. Coast Guard inspected vessel. This means that the vessel undergoes frequent rigorous inspections to ensure it meets stringent Coast Guard safety requirements. Part of the certification involves frequent man-overboard and other contingency drills performed by the captain and crew. Apart from their demanding onboard safety training, the captain and crew have also all been certified by the Red Cross in first aid, CPR and AED. Proper first responder equipment is kept on board.

Should we tip the crew?

Our crew is always grateful to receive tips, which are typically a standard service-based gratuity of 10-15%.

Is your vessel wheelchair accessible?

Our schooner is not wheelchair accessible. However, the crew is always happy to assist passengers of all physical abilities, including those in wheelchairs. When you purchase your tickets, please let us know if you will need assistance boarding.

What should we wear?

On chilly days, layers work best. We suggest adding one more layer than you would normally wear on shore.

Are there bathrooms on board?

Yes. But sailors call them "heads." Prior to departure or after your sail, you may also use the public restrooms located adjacent to our dock.

Where do you sail?

Being dependent on the wind, which can shift multiple times a day, we often do not know our course until the time of our two-hour sail. We try to sail towards Liberty Island if the wind favors that direction. Otherwise, we might sail north up the Hudson along the Manhattan skyline. For our private cruises, we can coordinate our route with you.

Do we need to be concerned about seasickness?

As we stay in the calm waters of NY harbor, you can expect a smooth sailing experience. We do not sail in open, unprotected ocean, so seasickness is uncommon on our two-hour sails. If you are highly susceptible to seasickness, use your own discretion about taking preventative medication.

Can I smoke onboard?

No, smoking is not permitted at any time.
